Obtaining A Federal Firearms License
March 30th, 2008 | by admin |To actually apply for the federal firearms license you need to complete the appropriate form, which can vary from either ATF Form 7, Application for License or alternatively ATF Form 7CR Application for License – Collector of Curios or Relics. The type of license that you would require will depend based upon exactly what you intend to do. If you are looking to get into the business of selling or dealing with only antique firearms then typically, the ATF Form 7CR form would be most appropriate. If you are opening a hunting store then you would require the standard ATF Form 7.
Once you have completed the form you would need to submit it to the local ATF office in your area. In addition to submitting the completed form, you would be required to pay an application fee. It generally takes several days before a federal firearms license can be approved. During the time for the license to be approved, a background check is usually conducted, as well as any other checks that the local ATF office feels is necessary. In order to have the license approved an individual must be applying for only a single location, and they must also have notified their local law enforcement agency that they are applying for a federal firearms license. Without this proper notification, the application for the license could be denied.
